GUEST BLOG POST BY STEPHANIE SIMNICK

Few weeks ago on September 14th, I spent the day with Mina in the West Loop at Moonlight Studios for the Be Healthful Retreat sponsored by Whole Foods and hosted by The Healthful Guide, In Good Taste Magazine, and Charity 4LIFE. And, I cannot say thank you enough to the Chicago Food Girl for the invitation.

As a marketing professional who started her career in the food industry, I have been to my fair share of food-focused, health-centric events over the years, and this one did not disappoint. In fact, I think the Balanced Babe, Sarah Baker, should consider adding event planner to her services.

The best part of the event was the variety of vendors. I had the rare opportunity to learn about juicing, B12 shots, reflexology, belly dancing and more. Did you know that reflexology was originally used as both a healing technique and self-defense? Martial artists would attack the sensitive areas on their opponent’s body using reflex points. #FunFact

My only wish was for it to be a multi-day event. I was able to visit all 25 holistic health, food and spa vendors’ booths, but unfortunately missed some of the classes and lectures that I had my eye on. With over 400 attendees this year, I’m hoping Sarah continues to churn out more educational, wonderful events like this one. Can’t wait to see what’s next for the Balanced Babe!

Stay tuned for more posts from Chicago Food Girl introducing you to all of the inspirational people we met at the Be Healthful Retreat…

About Charity 4LIFE

By attending the Be Healthful Retreat, you help improve your well-being and others. Attendees automatically contribute toward a great cause with 30% of each ticket sale donated to Charity 4LIFE. Charity4LIFE is a Chicago based 501(c)3 non-profit working internationally to rehabilitate street kids. Their mission is to put street kids on the path to success by empowering them to overcome the barriers of street life. Some of the barriers they face are regular access to food and clothing, drugs, gangs, physical and sexual abuse, lack of education, and poor emotional support. These children come from extreme poverty and turn to the streets because the abuse or neglect at home is too much to bear, only to find the streets are just as detrimental to their well-being.
